From August 14 to August 18 2023, the Applied Mathematics, Modeling, and Computational Science (AMMCS) conference was hosted at Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo. AMMCS is an international conference that aims to promote research and collaboration involving mathematical and computational sciences across a wide range of scientific disciplines.
As part of the event, our Environmental Modeller Harry Gaebler and Hydrodynamic Modeller Alireza Ghane hosted a presentation on the types of modelling projects Ecometrix undertakes to help answer environmental questions in the mining sector.
Harry and Alireza focused on various modelling tools that allow Ecometrix to complete cutting-edge surface water and groundwater modelling, hydrodynamics modelling, plume delineation, waste rock pile analysis, and tailings area analysis. These models allow Ecometrix to provide crucial insight into key processes such as runoff and seepage volumes and accurately forecast the movements of flushed constituents from waste rock piles and tailing areas to the surrounding environment.
Ecometrix applies these mathematical models to help gain insight into environmental questions, minimize environmental risks, and ensure sustainable mining practices.
