From June 18 to June 20, the University of Guelph hosted the 2023 Pathway to Increase Standards and Competency of eDNA Surveys (PISCeS) international conference. The event brought together academia, regulators, industry, NGOs, and Indigenous partners to both explore and inform public policy, industry strategies, and future research surrounding eDNA.
Our Environmental Scientist, Heather Veilleux, hosted a talk at the event about the work she conducted at the University of Alberta, where she and her team designed and tested an eDNA assay to monitor the Arctic grayling, a freshwater fish species.
As part of that, she dived into the rigorous work that went into the assay and the optimized strategies others should know about.
Heather also discussed preliminary metabarcoding data she’s been working on at Ecometrix, which was generated from eDNA samples collected from remote sites in northern Ontario.
